This sturdy wagon can also be quickly converted to use as a normal wagon by removal of the detachable seat, footrests and brake lever.

Still in 7 1/4" gauge, we recently developed this Diesel Brake Tender driving truck:

Class 20 with Diesel Brake Tender

Diesel brake tenders came into service when diesel locomotives started to be used for haulage of unfitted goods trains. It was thought that the locos themselves would have insufficient braking force for these trains, so these heavy, (35½ - 37½ tons) automatically vacuum braked tenders were introduced, and were either pushed in front or hauled behind their loco.

7.25 inch gauge Brake Tender with Class 20

Our model has a very comfortable fully padded, professionaly upholstered and correct profile roof / seat on a welded steel body and strong box section chassis with sturdy, disc braked, bogies, and is fitted with clevis couplings.

This sturdy wagon can also be quickly converted to use as a normal wagon by removal of the foot boards and brake lever.

The third possibility, and available for both 5" gauge and 7 1/4" gauge, is the new Inspection Saloon Driving Car.

Particularly useful in 5" gauge where a longer vehicle is much more comfirtable than a short wheelbase truck. There is more detailed information about these handsome models on a dedicated Inspection Saloon page here.

It is also worth noting that these Inspection Saloons are now also available in kit-form.

Use and Safety Information:

These riding trucks are designed for use by a single average build adult, and are provided with a braking system which is intended only to provide safe braking for the truck and driver. The driving truck and it's braking system should never be used as a substitute for proper locomotive and / or train braking systems.

In any event, the brakes must be applied gently, carefully and progressively with only the minimum effort required to bring the wagon and dirver to a safe stop, and to avoid either, locking the wheels causing  a loss of braking action, or damage to the brake linkage and operating parts. In this respect attention should be drawn to the fact that the brake lever, being longer than, for example, a bicycle handlebar brake lever, requires a lower amount of effort to apply the brakes, and aggressive use could cause damage to, or a malfunction of, the braking system.
