Newsletter September 2013

It occurred to me recently that a Newsletter is long overdue, and that it was time to sit down and write something "interesting" for our eager followers!

Now if you've received these newsletters before you will know that we usually concentrate on telling you about new or upcoming products. But this time I thought it would a good time to tell our customers and newsletter readers a bit about what is and has been going on behind the scenes here in rural Derbyshire.

"Ah-ah!" I hear you say - "they don't have any new products!"

Well, not entirely true. We have found over recent months, however, that, as hard as we try to develop and bring through "new and exciting" items to tempt you to part with your hard earned dosh, we find that customer orders keep piling in and distracting us from our quest!

We're not complaining. Far from it. Bring it on!

However, such has been demand this year, that we have bitten the bullet and taken on an apprentice - Matt Higham, a keen young man with, fortunately for us, a passion for railways, big and not so big, who is also a volunteer at a local restored line.  And that's not all. To try and further speed up production and get ahead of demand for a change, we have also invested in a second CNC lathe. And finally in the past couple of weeks we have spread into a second workshop, adjacent to our first, enabling us to better separate the machining and fabrication work from the assembly and finishing area.

Inevitably, all these changes, moving equipment, installing new machines, training etc,  have caused a few delays, but we are already noticing the benefits in production times, so it shouldn't be too long before we can catch up with our workload and begin to get back on top of the orders. In the meantime, apologies to anyone that we have kept waiting longer than expected - we are going as quick as we can!

Since the launch of this loco several months ago, we have received a considerable amount of interest, and a recent customer for whom we have built a pair, both fully motored and with sound, has sent us a  photo of his locos, together with the JGA Hopper based Driving Truck which we also built. You can view the photo by clicking on, or copying and pasting this link into your browser:

Although initially only planned in 5" gauge, we have been asked by a number of interested parties if we will be building them in 7 1/4" gauge. I can confirm that we certainly will as, in fact, we now have orders for three in 7 1/4", so if this appeals to you, please get in touch.

We will be next exhibiting at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition, from Thursday 17th October to Sunday 20th October 2013 at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, Nr Leamington Spa. Further info at:

That's all for now. As always, please get in touch if you have any questions - we are always delighted to hear from you.
